February 27, 2019 We arrived 8:30 AM in Santiago on flight from Lima. We took the airport bus to the Los Heros metro stop near downtown. From there it was a 5 minute walk to the Happy Hostel where we checked in. We wandered downtown until mid-afternoon. Had pizza and beer at a micro-brewery in the neighborhood.

February 28, 2019 The hostel breakfast featured fresh brewed coffee, yogurt, cereal, eggs, bread, meat, cheese and pancakes. Then we went to see Londres 38, an old building used by the Pinochet regime to torture political prisoners in the 1970's. Afterward we walked up Cerro Santa Lucia, then took a long route to the Museum for Human Rights. It featured many videos and exhibits. Much to absorb and comprehend.
That evening we took the overnite Cruz del Sur bus to Puerto Varas. Somewhere at 1AM we were treated to an on bus police interrogation which included drug sniffing dogs.
