Camino de Santiago - Burgos to Itero de la Vega

Photo: Camino near San Bol

April 26, 2014 A cold rainy day. Outside of Burgos is the beginning of the Meseta. I got to Hontanas, but I had experienced some shin pain later in the day.

Great food at the popular Albergue El Puntido. I shared a table with a German and two french-canadiens.

April 27, 2014 I felt good until I got to Castrojeriz, then the shin pain became severe. I stopped for a coffee and then felt better. I continued to top of Alto Mosteares, but soon the pain returned. I stopped at Albergue Puente Fitero in Itero de la Vega and stayed there two nights.

On April 29 I took a bus to Palencia. In the Palencia train station I met an English couple and a Scot who were also going to Leon. We all 4 made a mistake and got on a train to Burgos instead of Leon. The Spanish rails in Burgos allowed us to take the train to Leon at no extra cost, just lost time. I stayed at a hostel in Leon for a few days, giving my leg a chance to recover.
