Europe 2015 - Paris and Montaigu

Photo: Gare du Nord

April 19, 2015 From the Paris airport I took the RER B train to the Gare du Nord. From there I took a train to Laon, which is near where my grandfather was killed October 26, 1915.

A few years before, in my mothers keepsakes, I found a number of old German photos and the death certificate of my mothers German father, Bernhard Leusing. Though the death certificate shows he was buried in Corbeny, a small french village, it was unlikely that he would still be buried there. In late 2013 I found the location of his grave on the german website www.volksbund.de. His grave is located at german military cemetery Montaigu I, in block 2, grave #489. Montaigu I is near the french village of Montaigu, not far from Corbeny and close to Laon.

Bernard Leusing was born about 1880, married Antonia Lutum (born 1883) in July of 1911. They had two children, Agnes in 1912 and Antonia, my mother, in January 1915.
