Camino de Santiago: St Jean Pied du Port to Pamplona

Recycled waste containers common in France

November 13, 2019 Today I was going to spend another day in St Jean Pied du Port, but I looked at weather report and it did not predict much rain. So I got some food at the Lidl supermarket and took the Valcarlos route over the Pyrenees. The usual route, the Napoleon, is closed for the winter because of snow.

I walked much of the way with a Japanese man who spoke English. It did rain a little. From the pass at 1040 meters to Roncesville at 952 meters there was snow on the ground. I am staying at another pilgrim dorm, this one in Roncesville. Most of the people in last night's refuge are here tonite. There are French, Spanish, South Koreans, Japanese, Canadians, and Americans.

We had a set dinner for everyone at the only restaurant here, soup, pasta, chicken, potatoes, and wine. Great value for 10 euros.
