France Walk - Captieux to Saint Sever

October 3, 2017 Mary & Bernie took the morning bus to Langon. From there they would get to Paris and then fly to Florence, Italy. Louise & I walked thru two very strong rainstorms and eventually completed 22 km (725 km total), to Bourriot Bergonce. We had a rest at the Mairie and had a coffee at the village bar. We checked into La Maillade at 4 PM. It was good to get dry and warm up.

The owners had an old outdoor oven which were common in the area. They told us that hundreds of years ago the area had been very swampy and the land unsuitable for farming. We had a great dinner of lentils, sausage, and cr me dessert.

October 4, 2017 Today was an easy 14 km (739 km total) to Roquefort. Much of it was on the old railroad bed. Along the way we stopped to see the Eglise de Lugaut. After lunch we checked into the refuge staffed by Pierre, a volunteer. We had most of the afternoon to wash clothes, see parts of the town, and make some future reservations. We met another Netherlands pilgrim, Willie, staying in a motel. That night we had a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant.
