After packing, I ate breakfast. At the table I turned on my short wave portable radio, and listened to US election returns on BBC. Though Wednesday morning here, it was Tuesday evening in the USA and polls had closed. When it was announced that Ohio had gone for Obama, the outcome was clear.
I then left Kala Patthar, starting the journey back to Jiri, listening to the McCain's concession speech and election returns on the radio. I was stopped by some Europeans who became excited upon hearing the election outcome. They took turns photographing themselves listening to the election results on the radio.
I met the son of the Ama Dablam lodgeowner from Pangboche who was guiding a group of people up to Kala Patthar. He asked me to tell his mother that I saw him. I got to the Ama Dablam lodge about 3 PM. Other tourists there were Russian and Japanese.
