Wednesday, May 25, 1988 Bernie, Rick, and I left our Miami Holiday Inn at 3 PM and went to Miami International Airport. The plane left at 6 PM nonstop for Lima, Peru. The plane food was very good. Going through customs we chatted with a couple from Steamboat Springs who were in the importing business. They were very encouraging about our hiking plans in Peru. We took a $10 taxi ride to the Granada Hotel in downtown Lima. The road to downtown revealed that much of the buildings along the way were very stark, plain, and closed up. The hotel had good security and relatively clean rooms. We had a beer in the hotel cafe at midnight.
