Photo: View of Cuzco
Friday, May 27, 1988 We took a 5:30 AM taxi ride to the airport to catch a 7:00 Aeroperu flight to Cuzco. In Cuzco, as in Lima, we were constantly approached by young people with calculators offering to trade Intis for our dollars. At the time the exchange rate was about 170 Intis to the dollar. We found a hotel, the Hostal Caceres, for about $.90 a night. The hotel had a courtyard in the center, with many flowers and a place to wash clothes. We had to share a toilet, basin, and shower with other guests. Most other guests were young European or American travelers. Upon our arrival, we rested awhile due to the very high altitude.
