Spain 2001 - London, England

May 8, 2001 The United flight arrives at 7:30 AM. The line at customs is very long for non-UK/non-EU arrivals, such as myself. In line are many Asians, Africans, and Americans. It was easy to find the Underground metro and take the train to Johns Wood station, about an hour ride.

From Johns Wood station, Fran's house is only a few blocks walk, easily found. Nearby there are many shops, including a Starbucks coffee house. Many food related stores specialize, such as a butcher shop, a fruit stand, or a bakery. However, there are also supermarkets that are similar to USA supermarkets. In fact, the London supermarkets seem to have a greater variety of products than a typical USA store.

Regents Park is also close by. Walking thru the park, one becomes aware of the rich mixture of immigrants from all over the world that occupy London.

May 10, 2001 Frances and I went on the Magical Mystery Tour London walk. We took the Underground to a metro station where we joined about 20 other tourists and Londoners for the tour. The tour guide was a London resident who has devoted a large part of his life to following the Beatles. He showed us many sights and locations that were significant to the Beatles past. Included were the old offices of Apple records, the art gallery where John first met Yoko, Abbey Road studios, and the Abbey Road crosswalk.
