South America 1992 - La Paz Area Treks

April 25, 1992 The plane from Miami arrived at 6:00 AM in La Paz, Bolivia. My luggage was the last off the conveyer belt at the rather basic airport. Took a taxi to downtown and stayed at the Hotel Sagamari, expensive at $9 a night. Had lunch at the Chifa de Cambio of rice, chicken, fish and bread. At the chifa met a young woman and her brother, from Cuzco, Peru. She worked at the US Embassy, where she taught English to the personnel.

The next day I moved to the cheaper ($4) Alojiamento Illimani, near the stadium. I visited a few museums, and then went to a football doubleheader. The Strongest beat Colca Petroleum 2-1 and Boliviano beat Independent Petroleum 4-0. It was very rainy and cold.

April 27, 1992 A very frustrating day and primarily because I'm not fluent in Spanish. I searched much of the day for kerosene for my stove, and eventually found a shop that sold it. I was ready for the Takesi Trek that I would start the next day.
