South America 1992 - Cusco & Inca Trail

Photo: Hostal Caceras, Cusco

June 3, 1992 I took one of the first buses to Cusco. Checked into the Caceres, felt like getting home. I found that someone in the Urcos hotel had stolen some shampoo, erasers, and a t-shirt from my extra luggage while I was at Ausangate. Washed clothes, and strolled through the town for the first couple of days. The second night I got sick and threw up. I slept most of the next day.

June 7, 1992 My sister, Mary, her husband Bernie, and son Josh arrived about 9 AM from Lima. Had first of many big decadent breakfasts and got caught up on family news. I was happy to see them and I had been unsure if they would make it. A few days earlier the Shining Path had set off a huge explosion in Lima. Travel to Peru was not encouraged.

At night I met some of the Israeli s from Bolivia and talked about old times. At the Israeli bar I also met another group of Israeli s that wanted to hear my Ausangate war stories. The next two days we toured around Cusco and did a little shopping.
