Sep 23, 1989 Paul, Angle, and I went hiking in the Dandenongs. For lunch we stopped at a Devonshire tea place. A Devonshire Tea consisted of two scones (biscuit) with raspberry jam and whipped cream, for about $3.00, a real ripoff as far as I was concerned. Yet the price for an Austalian cafe cup of coffee was even more outrageous at $1.00 to $1.50, with no refill.
The next day the three of us went to an outdoor Sunday market at Camberwell. Afterwards we had lunch with Samera, a young Ethiopian woman living and studying in Australia. Her father, a political figure had been killed a few years ago, and now her family was scattered in Australia and Europe.

Sep 25, 1989 Paul and I spent the day preparing for a farewell party for Bert, a Malasian cook at the restaurent where Angie works. We brought a cake and soy burgers. Luckily for me, there was much barbequed meat at the party. Bert had been working for his brothers restaurant for six years. He was still an illegal immigrant, but was returning to Malasia. His was a typical situation.
