The third day started well, but soon the skies started to rain. About noon we got to Kia Ora Hut and started a fire with what little wood there was. There was no coal. I burned off a leach from my leg. The two of us plus several others hiked another three hours in the rain to get to Windy Ridge Hut. The hut was very crowded but warm and dry.
