Josh, Mary & Bernie
Later we eat a breakfast at an outdoor cafe. A middle aged couple from the Southeastern US also eat there and tell us about their humanitarian reasons for being in Bolivia. After they leave, we are stuck with the do-gooders breakfast bill.
Copacabana is much the same laidback tourist town I remember from 5 years ago. The Moorish style church adjacent to the main town square, dominates the downtown area. We explore the beach area and in the late afternoon we climb up to the top of the hill overlooking Copacabana, the Calvario. A freakish man dressed up like Jesus seems to look after the religious shrines at the top.
I am impressed with the tourist souvenirs being sold. T-shirts are of a higher quality than they used to be. Hats and caps are more "North American" style but made with local textiles. We had pizza and beer for dinner.
