May 4, 2015 At the hostel I met another American, Sam, who was going to walk the Westweg as far as Titisee. After hostel breakfast I started walking the Westweg. It was a pleasant warm day. I took a detour to Straubenhardt to get some groceries. The last 3 km were difficult because of my bad ankle. I had wanted to stay at the Dreisteine hut, but there was too much garbage. I went a little farther to the Volzoner Stein hut.

May 5, 2015 I walked the short distance to Dobel, had breakfast in a bakery and bought a few groceries. Though it rained a little, it was a great day for walking. I saw Sam late in the day. I did not find the hut I expected near Forbach, so I set up a shelter in the woods for the night.
