Camino de Santiago: Pamplona to Logrono

Irache wine

November 18, 2019 Had a large breakfast at the hostel. Much of the morning was cool and overcast, but not raining. Stopped at the fountain of wine and tried some, actually not bad.

Much of the walking was in the country away from the busy interstate. Got to Los Arcos a little after 1 PM. I was the first to check in.

I washed a few clothes then took a look around the town, not much open. One of the staff was a 30sh French guy with long hair and beard from the Lyon area. He had started walking from Le Puy, but had run short of money and had been a week in Los Arcos, earning his keep at the hostel. While I was checking my email on the phone, I noticed him looking at me.

Later the tall Korean woman, Yeah Eu, checked in as did Aussie Steve and a German guy (Jorg). After dinner I was talking to them and they showed me a paper with a drawing of me that the French guy had done and left for me on the table.

Later, Rita, a women from Budapest, Hungary showed up off the street. She walked the Camino from her Budapest home, thru Genoa, Le Puy, etc to Santiago and Finisterre. Now she had no money and was trying to get back home. Hitchhiking was difficult for her as was sleeping outside. She talked a long time with us about her experience in a mix of Spanish, French, and English. The French guy (Cyril) joined us and suggested we pay for a bed (10 euros) for her and get her some dinner, which is what we did. Despite his being short on money, he was the first to donate.

I complemented him on his artistic skills and he showed us some drawings of his of local men playing cards and drinking beer in the bar.
