Camino de Santiago: After Santiago

Madrid

December 23-26, 2019 Took the 8:30 train to Ourense and then train to Madrid. At the Chamatin train/metro station a helpful staff member got me set up with a metro card and showed me how to use it. My hostal was just a few metro stops away. I checked into my room and ate dinner at one of the local restaurants.

The next day I took the metro to downtown Madrid and went to the Thyssen Bornemisza art museum. A very good exhibition of many artistic works. Afterward, walked the streets and saw many people out shopping or sightseeing.

On Christmas day I took a long walk to downtown, not expecting to see many people. But there were many people out, especially in the city center. Many cafes, restaurants and gift shops were open. Had a roasted chicken dinner at a nearby cafe.

The last day I took the metro to the Atocha area and got in a line waiting to see the Reina Sofia museum. I spent almost 3 hours there, including seeing Guernica by Picasso. Then took a walk thru the Retiro Park and eventually a metro back to my hostal.
