Mar 11, 1979 I took the scenic, hilly coastal road to Nice, a ride of 45 miles. I encountered a bike race of perhaps 200 friendly bikers of varying ages and abilities.
In the afternoon, in a village outside of Cannes, I visited a well known Picasso mural of War and Peace. Further up the road I saw the Picasso museum at Antibes. Some of his tapestries were on display. The last mile up a steep hill to the Nice hostel was exhausting.

Mar 12, 1979 Although I got along with him, the hostel manager was very rude to many of the other travelers. My ride along RN7 to Menton, on the border, was very scenic and gave a high overview of the coast. The midpoint of my 30 mile ride was Monaco. I took a quick look at the town and rolled on.
The Menton hostel was at the top of a long steep hill. After pushing the bike much of the way up the hill, I realized I needed to get some groceries. So I went back down the hill, bought some food and then back up the hill. The view from the hostel balcony was spectacular. This was my last night in France, hard to believe only a week ago I was in Spain.
