May 8, 1979 I had octopus soup for breakfast. I then left Zadar and took the bus inland to Plitvice Lakes National Park.
I was soon surrounded by high school age kids that were part of a school group outing. Many spoke English and asked me what I thought of Yugoslavia, Slavic girls, John Travolta, etc. Their favorite singers/actors were John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, probably because of the recent Grease film. They were very friendly and gave me a cigar. Everyone offered me cigarettes and seemed offended if I did not accept one.
The Plitvice Lakes are known as a series of 30 beautiful waterfalls within a relatively short distance. I saw the lower falls and then found a place to camp for the night.
