May 18, 1979 I took the morning train to Feldbach. A couple of intoxicated Austrians bought me a beer for the journey. I saw the Raab (Raba) River and then hiked 5 miles over hills and forested countryside to Riegersberg.
There I stayed in a hostel that was actually one of the gates to the castle atop the hill. During the 19th century, the hostel served as a jail. The older lady taking care of the hostel was very pleasant. The accommodation, including breakfast cost $4 (60 schillings).
