May 23, 1979 I took the train to Krems on the Danube River. There I saw the Krems Museum which featured exhibits on the city and wine. At the hostel I shared a room with a group of rowdy Berlin students.

May 24, 1979 From Krems I started walking along the bank of the Danube that was less busy. I passed many vineyards and wine houses. At midday I stopped at a restaurant and had good meal of beer, eggs and ham.
After 17 miles I reached the Aggstein ruins that were perched high above the Danube. It had a good view over the Danube, though the ruins were in poor shape. It was mainly a tourist attraction, but it was possible to occasionally rent a bed in the ancient castle. My bed was above the castle restaurant. I said hello to twin girls from Canada I had seen the previous day at the Krems Museum.
