May 25, 1979 I was ready to leave the castle soon after I woke up, but found I was locked inside the ruins. I was the only one in the castle and the only way out was to leap over the walls. Finally at 8:30 AM someone unlocked the gate.
I walked to the town of Melk. There I ran into the Miller twins again. From Melk I hitched 3 rides to get to Linz. There I picked up mail and found a hostel. There were many soccer teams in Linz for a tournament of international teams.

May 26, 1979 I walked to downtown Linz on a warm, sunny day. But soon I felt strange and sick and staggered back to the hostel. After sleeping it off I played chess with a Finnish craftsman, Miko, and talked to his English speaking girlfriend, Paula. Later, watched one of the soccer games.
I saw on the TV news that a DC10 had crashed in Chicago the previous day. I was glad I was no longer planning on flying a Laker DC10 back to the US.
