France Walk - St Foy le Grande to Captieux

Photo: La Reole dinner

September 29, 2017 We followed pleasant country road the 13 km (649 km total) to La Reole. Had a coffee and pastry at a popular bakery. We then found the gite and checked in. Louise arrived and in mid afternoon we went to an organ recital at the cathedral. Afterwards Louise met a father and son from Germany that she had walked with. We had beers and then hamburgers for dinner.

Louise arrived later. We washed clothes, went to a supermarket on the outskirts of town and later had pizza from a food truck parked on the square. We ate at a picnic table in the covered square.

September 30, 2017 We woke up to a steady rain. We had breakfast and then ventured out into the rain. On the way out of La Reole we passed thru a large open air market. Many meats, fruits and vegetables. The rain lessened as we crossed over the bridge, but did not completely stop until a few hours later.

At noon we reached Savignac and had lunch and coffee outside a small grocery store. We continued on to Auros having walked 19 km (668 km total). The Chateau Auros was not open, so I called the contact phone number I had last talked to. They were not answering, so I called the initial contact. He said he was on his way back to the village, but it would be two hours.

While we waited, Bernie got a haircut and Mary & Louise checked out the grocery stores. When the caretaker and his wife arrived we found out that he had been in the hospital for a heart attack. He shared a bottle of his expensive ice wine with us. The refuge was very nice and we used the kitchen to make dinner.
