France Walk - Captieux to Saint Sever

Photo: Path thru forest

October 5, 2017 It was a pleasant morning for walking. After Bougue, the route was on a long straight bike path that took us all the way into Mont de Marson for 27 km (766 km total). Eventually we found the refuge and retrieved a key from the local asia food store. Also staying at refuge was Roel and Willie, both Netherlanders. Roel had heard about Alexander and his snoring.

It was an interesting, modern town. Umbrellas and trees wrapped. Louise and I cooked a dinner in the refuge kitchen.

October 6, 2017 We walked thru a drizzly morning. Louise shopped at a Lidl on edge of Mont de Marson. It was nice to stop in Banquet for a coffee and get out of the rain. After 22 km (788 km total) we reached St Sever. Willie & Roel were also staying at the municipal refuge.

When I tried to use my phone I found it did not work. I went to the tourist office to use their wifi and was able to determine Verizon had not renewed my international plan and I was now without the use of a phone.

Perhaps I was lucky that my attention was diverted with the phone issue. A local man, Phillipe, was a member of the committee that had oversight over the refuge. Also, he knew the access code to the refuge and let himself in to try to convince us to stay at an alternative accommodation for the next day. He was relentless in approaching the others and was asking them about my whereabouts. Everyone thought he was trying to sell us something we did not want.

We all had dinner that night at the refuge.
