Nepal 2008 - Annapurna: Base Camp to Birethanti

Photo: Community meeting in Syauli Bazaar

November 30, 2008 Got to Chhomrong about 11 AM, then headed down trail to New Bridge. I had wanted to go to Ghandruk, but eventually I realized I could take a more direct trail to Birethanti. I ended up staying at a lodge in Syauli Bazar.

The lodge was run by a very friendly family. There was no electricity serving this village, an exception to most all the villages I had trekked through.

December 1, 2008 In the morning the lodge owner showed me his cut thumb, that had been bitten by a rat overnite. He asked me if I had anything for it. I applied some antibiotic antiseptic and a bandage. Typical of rural Nepalis, they lacked medical supplies and easy access to medical clinics or facilities.

Birithanti was an easy walk and from there I got a bus to Pokhara. Checked into the Orient lodge. Great to have laundry done and eat a lot of food.
