Photo: Long line of dancers at start of Q'oyllur Riti
Monday, May 30, 1988 In the morning, we had breakfast and debated whether or not to leave the tent up or take it with us to the festival. Foolishly, we left it behind. On the way we saw people carrying a great variety of things up the narrow mountain trail. There were harps, other musical instruments, tin siding, candles, toy trucks, etc. It was a pilgrimage of thousands of people going both up and down the mountain.
After 6 kilometers we reached the festival located at the base of a glacier at 15,000 feet altitude. There were many dancers and musicians. People were making offerings out of the rock piles. We talked to some of the people who had been on our truck. After a few hours we went back down the mountain to our camp for the night.
