Saturday, June 4, 1988 Today was wash day. We went to an expensive place for breakfast that also changed money. The owner had little money and offered a low exchange rate (165 I/$). We ended up changing money on the street for 172 I/$. We did some shopping for sweaters, yarn, etc. That night we had dinner with Bill, Martha, and their 3 children. They have been living in the Cuzco area for 3 years, working as Lutheran missionaries.

Sunday, June 5, 1988 Again ran up Sacsayhuaman, and got as far as the first ticket office, the best I did. I was invited by a couple of local people to play in an intramural soccer game, but had to say no due to my bad knee and groin muscle. We did some packing for the Machu Picchu trip then had breakfast. At the train station, we could not get our tickets for the next day. We went to the football stadium and saw a preliminary game and the feature game between Arequipa and Cuzco. Although they dominated, Cuzco only won 2-1.
We had dinner at the Chifa Angeles, Bernie noticed when someone needed silverware at a table, the waiter would go to a used table, wipe the dirty silverware on a towel, and present the 'clean' silverware to the customer. Later we went to another restaurant for a cup of cuppacino. There we shared a table with the CEO of Beneficial Standard of Los Angeles.
