Tuesday, June 7, 1988 A very beautiful morning. A few cows were in the area of our camp. Bernie and Rick had gathered a bunch of other peoples garbage and put into a bag. Since they had heavier packs, particularly Bernie, I volunteered to carry the sack of garbage. We arrived at the 13,800' Dead Womans Pass at 11:00 AM. The native porters, in their tire sandals, easily passed us by.
At the bottom of the next valley, we had lunch at 12:30. Following lunch we hiked up to the Ruins of Runkuracay and then over the next pass. We saw the ruins of Sayacmarca. Bernie gave some of his tape to an Inca guide whose hiking shoes had split. We then hiked to a pleasant campsite nearby. The scenery had become very 'jungly'.
