Thursday, June 9, 1988 We got up at 5:00 AM, hoping to get an early start to Machu Picchu. Hiking along the jungle path, we reached Intipunku pass at 7:00 AM and got to see the sun rise on Machu Picchu. Also got to have my morning coffee, always a welcome event. Following a brief breakfast, we hiked down to Macchu Picchu. We did the touristy things, including climbing up a very steep and precarious trail to Huayna Picchu.
We hiked down the track to Aguas Caliente, checked out Gringo Bill's hotel, and instead checked into the Youth Hostel. We had a bath at the local hot spring. Later that night I had a vegetable tortilla and a chocolate pancake, real treats!
