Monday, June 13, 1988 We had a morning run in Huaraz. Hugo fed us breakfast and then we washed clothes. Today was a day to buy food, hats, gas, and look at the local woolen goods. Lunch was fried rice and I had a fish stew for dinner.
Tuesday, June 14, 1988 We caught a 6:30 AM bus to Yungay, a town that had been buried by a 1970 landslide. A truck took us to Lagunas Llanganuco from where we began the hike to Santa Cruz. Although the mountain scenery was spectacular, the dusty switch-back road took its toll on us. Eventually we reached the 15.000' pass and camped nearby next to a small lake.
