Photo: Yvonne & Lonya at one of many crevasses
Taya fell into a small ice crevasse, but emerged unharmed. Snow covered many of the ice crevasses, so it was important to be very careful. A few times we held onto a rope as we crossed over a crevasse. The last few hundred feet to the top of the pass was very steep. I could hear my injured right knee crack with every step. In early summer I had badly torn my ACL in a soccer game.
At the top of the pass we ate a light lunch. It had taken about 4 hours to reach the top. On this beautiful day we could see the two Mt. Elbrus summits in the distance. It was a perfect day for the Elbrus climbers, the best day yet.
