Sep 19, 1985 In the morning we ate a late breakfast, before departing at 9:00 AM. The day was sunny and warm as we headed toward Dongus-Orun Pass. After Becho Pass, I had thought a lot about Dongus-Orun and this day. I was nervous about another hike with significant exposure risk. At noon we stopped at the base of the pass and had a final hot camp meal. During the meal a cold front rolled in, complete with light snow.
At 2:00 PM we started hiking the rocky mountain slope. Although it was steep, it was not dangerous. The snow got to be quite deep as we hiked higher. We met some of the other camp participants halfway up. They were headed for Nacra. Taya and I reached the top of the pass at 5:00 PM in a steady snowfall with drifts three feet deep. The others were not far behind except for Lonya and Susan. Lonya stayed with Susan who had more difficulty walking on a bad knee.
