Sep 21, 1985 Several of us took a bus to the Adyr-Su Valley. We got off at a vehicle lift that was like a giant escalator. From there we hiked 3 hours up a dirt road to a mountaineering camp. The day was warm and sunny. The views of the mountains were spectacular. We got back to the hotel at 4:00 PM.
After lunch we had our final meeting with the Soviets. They gave us gifts then asked for our critical comments. Points discussed were the 2 day Nacra hike, availability of good maps, descriptions of climbing routes, and hygienics at Priute 11. Nothing was resolved but the discussion was friendly.
That night, our last night in the Caucusus, there were many Gore-Tex jackets, sleeping bags, climbing boots, backpacks, and other western goods traded for Russian titanium ice screws.
