May 31, 1992 Early on the 3rd day we climb to Palomani Pass, the highest pass on the trek at 17,000 feet. Maximo took me on a scenic shortcut past Lake Cochajasi. In mid afternoon we reach Jampa and camp in a deserted corral.
Pointing at animal dung in the corral, Maximo makes a derogatory reference to Israelis. A negative view of Israeli travelers seems to be very common from natives I encountered in both Bolivia and Peru.
It was a very cold and windy night, with occasional rain.

June 1, 1992 Again we start the day by hiking over a pass, the 16,500' Q'ampa Pass. We had a great view of Mt Puca Punta and a glacier below it. At noon we reach the village of Quecmojo, and shortly afterwards enjoy another hot springs near Pachanta.
A couple of hours later we reach the outskirts of Tinqui and are greeted by young villagers drunk on pisco who willingly share the strong brandy. I spend the night at Maximo's Tinqui house.
