June 2, 1992 I wanted to take the 8:00 AM bus to Urcos, but by 9:00 the bus still had not come. So I took a truck that Maximo flagged down for me. The nonstop rain has turned the dangerous mountain roads even more so. The truck has to slow down or stop at most every turn.
The tires have very little tread and many times the trucks operators have to create traction in the slick muddy road for the truck. Even the passengers had to help with the pick and shovel duties. Eventually we reach the pass around midnite. The truck stops for a few hours so both drivers and passengers get some rest.
We finally reach Urcos at 6:00 AM, a 60 mile trip in 21 hours.
