June 10, 1992 We got up at 4:30 AM to catch the 6:10 local train to the Inca Trail start at Kilometer 88. We were hiking by 10A.M. A Norwegian couple, Henna & Sven, hiked with us. The new Israeli group I met at the bar, were on the trail and were using porters, as most groups. Being macho South Dakotans, we didn't need any porters. The first day, as expected, was very difficult. Bernie had a chest cold. We camped next to a work group that was cleaning the trail.
The next day was good weather until 1/2 hour from the Sayamarca ruins, when it started raining. We camped at the Sayamarca ruins, and tried to dry out.
The third day was very cloudy and foggy. It finally cleared up in the afternoon. We camped near the trail hotel, but all other hikers went to the Intipunku site.
The last day we got up early and hiked to Intipunku to cook breakfast and view the sunrise on Macchu Pichu. Then a tour of Macchu Pichu, lunch at Aguas Caliente, and a crowded train ride back to Cuzco.
