On Monday we went to the Los Andes Spanish School, to get classes set up. We were taken to the house of the family where we were to stay the next 3 weeks. In the upper middle class house was Clara, the older mother; Sylvia, about 30, single and outgoing; Gab, about 30, married to Gabriela; and Gab & Gabriela s two children, Andre and Stephanie.

On Monday to Thursday of the next 3 weeks we would go by bus to school in the morning. I took 4 hours of instruction a day and Rick took 7 hours a day. We would also normally have some homework. Clara would cook breakfast and dinner for us. Breakfast was coffee, white toast and an egg. Dinner almost invariably included a soup, rice, and potatoes. Water for washing and showers was scarce, and not available the last week we were there.
