Continued: Project name: Marten Creek
The top of the 27’ stringer logs that will make up the bridge span had to be flat. To accomplish that about 1/3 of the log was removed. First, we used crosscut saws to saw down to two chalk lines running the length of the tree. Each cut was about 4” apart for the entire 27’ length.

After the saw cuts were made, axes were used to remove the excess wood and create the flat surface needed for the stringer top.

To get the completed stringer on the bridge, we used the winch to slowly pull it across, balancing the stringer on the supporting logs on one side and the old stringers. The old stringers ended up next to the bridge, yet still spanning the creek.
